Plymouth, IN- The Cleveland members of the Golf Channel Am Tour are well represented in the Heartland Open at the Swan Lake Resort. 13 Tour members are scattered in 8 different flights of the 2-day tournament. The weather on day 1 of the tournament was beautiful as mostly sunny skies warmed the wet fairways from recent rainfall as temps rose into the 80's. A nice gentle breeze kept the temperature managable as well.
In the Championship Flight, Sam Dipaola sits in 4th place shooting a 77 on the Black Course. He is 4 strokes back of the lead in his flight.
In the Palmer Flight, Tylor Davis is in 11th place and shot a 90 in round 1 on the Black Course.
The Hogan Flight saw 3 competitors as newly promoted Jeff Mast shot 84 and is in 10th place after a log jam at the top where 8 players are either tied for or 1 stroke off of the lead at 80. Ed Ruper is in 13th place with an 86 and Dale Thompson is tied for 17th with an 89.
The Sarazen Flight saw Matt Blum in a tie for 6th place as he carded an 88 and is 7 strokes off of the lead.
Daniel Schivits shot 106 and is in a tie for 12th place in the Snead Flight.
In the Senior Flights, it was Senior Palmer John Smallenburg who carded an 83 and is in 7th place 6 strokes back of the lead.
The Senior Sarazen Flight competitors ar led by Doug Perry's 11th place position after his 92. Kurt Beler is tied for 16th at 94.
And in the Senior Snead Flight, Charles Burger is once again in contention for his 3rd top-3 placing in a "major" as he sits in 3rd place with a 97. Charles is 2 strokes off the lead. He is followed by Ronald Shoemaker in a tie for 5th at 101 and Jim Laprade who is 13th at 110.
If any of the tour members finish in the top-3 in their flights tomorrow, they will automatically qualify for Nationals at PGA West in September.
We wish all Cleveland Tour competitors good luck in the final round on Sunday as they are scheduled to battle some showers/thunderstorms in the weather and hope to see them at home on tour soon.
