Copeland Hills Recap

Columbiana, OH- In a week where many were planning graduation parties or the start of the spring and summer travel seasons, 12 players took to competition at Copeland Hills Golf Course to decide who would be champion in the Golf Channel Am Tour Copeland Hills event on the Cleveland Tour.  The weather was very hot for the first time this season as temperatures reached into the 90's for the first time this year.  Humidity was also up and rain showers were around the area but did not fall on the tournament.  It made for a tough course where the greens were rock hard and although the course was drying out from all the rain it had recieved this season, the rough was short but bunchy and grabbing shots.

In the Hogan Flight, it was Dale Thompson (79) who held off Brett Gaylord (82) and Abram Boyd (82) by 3 shots.  Thompson was neck and neck with both golfers before starting to pull away in the final few holes.  The low scores from all three competitors were keyed by them making pars or better on many of the holes.  Each of the 3 players had at least half of their holes played in par or better.  James McNair finished 4th.

In the Sarazen Flight, Michael Yates shot a 78 leading all scorers on the course in route to a 7-stroke victory over Charles Blasdel (85).  Kurt Beler placed 3rd with an 87.  Yates was attacking pins and scrambling all day to make 2 birdies and 9 pars on his card, finishing with a 6-over par total.

In the Jones Flight, Scott Cummings shot a 91 to claim a 3 stroke victory over Kevin Allen (94).  Cummings jumped out to a 5-stroke lead early only to watch the lead change hands and then be tied going into the 14th.  He was able to make birdie on the par-5 14th to reclaim the lead and hold on.

And in the Palmer Flight, Tylor Davis shot an 82.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday, June 19th at Windmill Lakes Golf Course.  Enjoy Father's Day on the links and come watch the end of the US Open in the clubhouse after the conclusion of our tournament.  Windmill Lakes is the home of the Kent State University Golf Team, who are one of the top NCAA Men's teams in the country.  It is also the college home course of Ben Curtis, the former British Open Champion.
